I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Creation is constantly proclaiming the faithfulness of its Creator.    I see it often in the simplest little details – and I love telling my kids about what I see.

Yesterday, while mowing the yard, I noticed the tiniest little grapes beginning to grow on the grapevine.  There are so many analogies we can find in a grapevine - similarities between ourselves and our relationship with God, and this time I was reminded that God never quits.

He just doesn’t!  He’s too faithful for that!  What He sets out to do, He will accomplish!

The grapevine in my back yard has been there for more years than I can remember.  The bushels of fruit my grandma, aunts and cousins have harvested from that vine are too numerous to tell, but not one time did we discuss what the vine might produce “next year”.  We never considered the possibility of finding a pumpkin growing in its green leafy depths.  No one has ever double checked to make sure grapes were growing rather than carrots, baby cows, oak trees or even green grapes as opposed to the purple Concord grapes the vine was created to produce.

I sat for a moment staring at the tiny cluster of grapes and remembered the verse in Phillipians 1:6: “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”

God isn’t swayed by fatigue, current fads, change of heart or impatience.  The grapes seem to get that better than I do!  They simply grow without straining or complaining.  If Creation can rest and wait on God, knowing He is faithful to complete what He has promised, how much more should I learn to rest and wait on Him.

Rest in Him, knowing that even when it seems like nothing is happening, He is working to complete His good plans for your life!
